So, an old friend of mine and I tried to create this a while back on my old server, but if anyone has played Jetpack Joyride, they'll see where I'm going.
The developers, half brick, give this description:
Join Barry, a struggling gramophone salesman, as he breaks into a secret laboratory and commandeers experimental jetpacks. Strap on a bullet-powered jetpack to dodge lasers, electric fields and all the missiles that come your way.
Get a boost along the way with vehicles like the Lil’ Stomper, Profit Bird, and Crazy Freaking Teleporter. If you’re lucky, you’ll also find the Strong Arm Machine (SAM) – the ultimate vehicle of destruction and hi-fives.
The Powerups in Jetpack Joyride are made up vehicles which are really cool, for example, there are dragons that you control or robots and things like that which all help you progress further, quicker.
The currency in Jetpack Joyride helps you upgrade visuals such as golden power-ups (Which are just golden, not more powerful) or more interesting jetpacks. The default jetpack is a machine gun, but you can buy all sorts with the currency from getting far and collecting coins in-game.
The game is simply played by the player holding down the screen to activate the jetpack, but the player has to try and avoid obstacles such as lasers or electricity wires.
It's a really cool game and free so if you want to see what I'm talking about, go download it.
The way this would work in Minecraft is definitely worth a custom plugin, but even without you can make it work.
You could build levels with long 3x3 corridors, and then use the Rocket Boots plugin (https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/rocketboots) and there's sure to be other plugins for power-ups somewhere.
The scoring system and leaderboards would be really competitive and if you could make an infinite corridor, the highest score could also be an exciting challenge.
I'd like to see more app - minigame adaptations, only on McOrigins, it could give the server an edge over the rest.
